We The People of the United States of America deserve honest lawmakers who stand with the American people who elected them – not the ‘Party’.

That section of the brief is highly misleading in some respects, minimizing the recklessness of Trump's pre-riot speech and his inexcusable dereliction of duty after the assault on the Capitol began. Those actions and inactions rightly led to Trump's impeachment by the House and should have resulted in his conviction by the Senate, which would have barred him from running for president again.

Former officials in Republican administrations filed an amicus brief in the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, arguing the immunity idea was “absurd,” “dangerous” and would remove the guardrails from one of the most powerful people on Earth. “The Constitution does not confer any kind of immunity upon former Presidents for conduct that violates the criminal laws of the United States and instead contemplates that a former President might be prosecuted for crimes committed in office,” they wrote.
